Friday 11th Feb
Arrival around 14:30 and we pitched on K24, overlooking the valley. On a slight slope, even when using chocs. Nice and quiet though.
Plots K 16 to 29 are flat, although next to the dog walking strip.
View from our front window
Although a tranquil site, I stepped outside to hear dogs barking on the dog walk strip (but with the telly on, and inside the van, they can't be heard). And some bloke was flying a drone (not allowed in this site apparently). Maybe it'll quieten down later but I wouldn't want a flat plot next to the dog walk strip that's for sure. So that leaves a sloping pitch instead.
Finally got reception for TV by reading their helpful site notes! The free WiFi is was good enough for Netflix and Prime.
Unfortunately the Daisy Diner doesn't open till March.
Saturday 12th Feb
By the time we woke, and got dressed, I went outside to get the bikes ready. Then the rain came. And didn't stop. So I watched the Olympics and then the rugby, Wales v Scotland, and at half time (14-14) the rain stopped so we went out for a walk. Couldn't find the first footpath, so found the next which took us through a field. Finally found the next footpath to walk along, but after 10 minutes of mud we turned back. (The path is north of Llanerch).
The whole walk was about an hour, but the start and end was along a busy road. Not much around the area unless you have a car!
Went to an Indian on the evening in Bishops Castle, a tasty Indian restaurant with nice staff. Also had a pint beforehand in a proper spit and sawdust pub - made friends with a huge dog who liked having his head patted... then curry then a drink after in the posher pub called the Castle. Gonna make an effort to speak more welsh with Laura's help.
£24 return trip in the taxi for about a 5 minute taxi ride! Worth it though as it was a nice night out.
Sunday 13 Feb
Well last night the weather was horrendous. Kept thinking that I would lose the bike cover or it would be torn to sheds 😂
The toilet flush doesn't work in the Kerry block... tried to fix it myself but couldn't...
Lau cooked a lush van breakfast; bacon, eggs, mushrooms, a grilled tomato with a slice of bread.
Our verdict:
Both decided we wouldn't come back as it's too far away from civilisation. Our weather didn't help much either. There may be some nice bike rides in the area, but couldn't get out to explore.
